BHTC NEWS FOR July 2023
- One thing you knew and one thing you should know—Members are well-aware of the fact that the people who staff the front desk are always respectful when they greet us and ask our names but are we all aware of how competently, completely, and willingly they do so many invisible things that make the BHTC run smoothly? Of course, the staff brushes the courts and sweeps the lines after watering the Har-Tru but they complete countless tasks that are easy to overlook but which are necessary; they maintain the deck, clean the Clubhouse, and insure we always have fresh towels. We want the workers to know that their efforts are appreciated.
- It’s happening again—The 19th Ward High School Girls Tournament: Saturday August 19 teams from McAuley, Marist, Morgan Park Academy, and St. Ignatius will compete in a quadrangular. These varsity teams will play 2 singles and 2 doubles events against each other. Warm-ups begin at 9:30. Round 1 begins at 10:00, round 2 begins at 11:30, round 3 begins approximately 1:00 and the trophy presentation before 3:00.
- It looks like it will happen again—The BHTC will participate in Open House Chicago October 14 and 15 from 10:00 until 5:00 both days. What does that mean? It means that people from all around our area will be able see what a gem the Beverly Hills Tennis Club is. Members will be able to use the tennis courts and paddle court as usual; visitors will be welcome on the porch, on the deck and in the Clubhouse. If you would like to volunteer as a docent for an hour or two either day, send an email to admin@beverlyhillstennisclub.com with “Open House Chicago” in the subject line.
- Thanks a million—Our annual Breakfast at Wimbledon would not have happened if not for Board Member Tito Illaraza. Thanks, Tito for planning, shopping, and cooking.
Tennis Quiz Question—Can you name the Wimbledon Champion who has his/her/its picture on the wall of our clubhouse?
